Many of you may have seen pictures of my lovely office/studio. It’s all very clean and tiny and minimal………apart from the horrendous amount of clutter I have on one side of the room. We can all slip up from time to time and my current studio storage isn’t helping. I only have one set of drawers and one shelf that I love and use, the rest is just a mess. With this playing on my mind, I’ve been on the hunt for solutions. Like my bedroom redesign the storage units have to be good quality, adaptable for any new space and designed well. I want open shelves as it’ll be easy access for my books, styling props and other bits. With it being open I will have no excuss for mess, using large boxes to hide my messy items and style what I love and use.
Here are my top 5 minimalist shelving solutions.
1 – STICKS SHELVING SYSTEM designed by Jan + Henry for MENU
Designed to meet the needs of the young generation, like me though I’m not so young, with temporary accommodation and on the move. With 24 variants the Stick system can be adapted to fit almost any space. “We wanted to create an aesthetically beautiful design solution,” says Jan Plecháč. “Stick System enables multiple options, which makes it a pragmatic for today’s needs.” Made from stained Ash and powder coated steel, its simplicity is quite striking. This would be perfect for my studio, it would certainly make me create beautiful and stylish displays.
2 – VIVLIO SYSTEM designed by Included Middle for SKAGERAK
Winning multiple designs awards such as the Red Dot award 2016 and danish design awards, this shelving system needed to be on the list! Another modular style, which is perfect for flexible living. This Vivlio system is made from steel frames and solid Ash wood boxes. This system really does put the freedom of design into the customers hands with multiple variations, too many for me to count. This simply focusses on user and object.

3 – STRING shelving system
Originally designed in 1949 by Nils Strinning the shelf system has developed over the years and become a design lovers favourite. String’s website is really cool too as you can build your own string with various components and collates it in detailed list for the retailer to order. It’s modular as mentioned and can be wall mounted too, depending on the frame you choose. This is a design classic with so much variation, I just love it!

This strong industrial looking unit has a surprisingly soft look for the home, with perforated holes and cleverly chosen soft colour hues. AND yes, it’s another modular system, this again is perfect to design a simple shelving system to suit any space. These would be another great choice for my studio as they’re so robust and pretty too!
