An interiors update, my minimalist hallway

minimalist Scandinavian hallway

My hallway is not quite a hallway more of a thoroughfare. It’s very open plan and simple with one cupboard for coats. I’ve been playing around with practical solutions but it’s trial and error. To truly understand a new space it helps to focus in the practical use, living with it and understanding peoples pattern of behaviour.

I know now that we like to throw our keys, hats and gloves off straight away. We’re not so careful so a dainty hook for keys is just not for us. I also like a big seat for putting on and taking off shoes, balancing or perching are no-no’s too. A big fat seat is a must. Hooks will be handy but when drilling is involved in a rental, I need to take my time and carefully consider exactly what I need.

So this is my current set up. A ferm living plant box is perfect for our bits and bobs. What I’m super excited about is that Ferm Living are launching a tray for the Plant box in black! (available on their webshop in February ’18). They do have a brass one but we all know how I feel about the yellow metal. The black tray will work well with my current colour scheme. A little natural greenery is a must. I’ve got my little potted christmas tree in the plant box but I’m the look out for something big and gnarly, so watch this space.

The chair! Oh this is a special one. The Søborg chair with steel legs designed by Børge Mogensen in 1952. A design to reflect his view on international modernism. It has a large seat and large back support. I could sit in it for hours. Many restaurants have this chair and I understand why, it’s practical, comfortable and nice to look at.

There we have it. The beginnings of my minimalist hallway.

This is the cleanest hallway I’ve ever seen. It looks very stylish. I like it a lot. Thanks for sharing.

we have a small cupboard opposite to hang a few coats. Though if I didn’t then I’d get the new Ferm Living Pujo wall rack. It’s beautiful
