Design hotel Amsterdam – Hotel De Hallen

Design hotel - Hotel de Hallen Amsterdam

During my recent trip to Amsterdam I had 3 comfortable nights in this cool designer hotel, Hotel de Hallen, a former tram depot dating back to 1902. Converted into an industrial designer boutique hotel filled with vintage and modern Scandinavian furniture (spotting HAY and Muuto to name a few), which I loved of course. Decorated with a unique collection of art in the lobby has been hand picked by the owner, who must be eccentric, artwork such as sculptures of pigs with teeth, hanging mannequins covered in moss and a random painting of a caravan with moving lady in the window.

I was pleasantly surprised about how spacious it all was. The lobby was like an oasis away from the city, very calm and stylish. With the rooms leading directly from the lobby, no hallway, and another level of rooms on the upper floor. I was a little worried about the potential noise as each room led onto this lobby area but I couldn’t hear anything once in my room.

The hotel rooms were quiet, stylist and comfortable. I couldn’t stop swoon over the polished concrete floors, they were stunning!  Walking bare foot just so I could feel how smooth it was, it was bliss, I realise that may sound slightly fetishist but hey, I love polished concrete.

This modern stylish and almost utilitarian concept to a new hotel is part of the 2,700-square-metre De Hallen complex, featuring restaurants, cinema, library, boutiques and funky food market. You could spend a few days there alone without needing to venture into the city.

I booked my room through Booking.com  but you can get book a room direct through Hotel De Hallen too.
