Hotel SP34 – Copenhagen’s boutique hotel

Hotel SP34 Copenhagen

Boutique hotel SP34 in Copenhagen’s Latin Quarter, quickly became a favourite for design lovers visiting the city. SO I thought, why not treat myself to 2 nights there and see what it’s like myself.

Comprised of 3 townhouses, Hotel Sp34 was designed to respect the original architecture and surrounding neighbourhood. The design of the hotel is targeted for the ‘Luxury Bohemians’ amongst business people and tourists. So much is cleverly packed into this hotel, 118 rooms, Penthouse suites, 3 a la carte restaurants, 4 bars, a rooftop terrace, a cinema and conference facilities.

The boyfirend and I arrived just in time for the wine hour, perfect. Each guest is offered a complimentary glass of wine between 5-6pm in the beautiful hotel lounge bar. That’s my kind of welcome! The rooms are decorated in a minimal style with warm grey walls, Frama furniture, brass lighting and the insta famous bed, that I couldn’t wait to takes snaps of.  We booked the superior double, it wasn’t a huge room nor was it small but I was still very happy with it. We were lucky to have the most wonderful view onto the Sankt Peders Stæde and huge window, this most likely adds to the superior aspect of the room.

Rooms like this are so simple and stylish that I struggle to understand why there are still many hotels that don’t take such a design led approach. It’s instantly relaxing and inviting.

The design continues throughout the entire building to the lounge and incredible restaurants. Cofoco’s Vakst restaurant, that I’ve previously mentioned, is right of the entrance and on the corner is the super cool burger place called Cocks & Cows, both have incredible food.

As you can tell, I loved it, I’m a sucker for a design hotel. To have an honest review I had to mention that the room wasn’t the largest superior double room that I’ve stay in. But it had everything we needed, still a good size and SO pretty! Hotel Sp34 is a great stay in the Latin Quarter, very boutiquey and very cool. The prices can be quite high but I’m presuming this is because of its location and its target market of Luxury bohemians and business people. My tip is to check for offers both on www.brochner-hotels.com and Booking.com

Such an inspiration for hoteliers and for anyone staying in Copenhagen. My family has worked in the hotel industry for years and the reason why so many hotels aren’t designed to this standard is that they are part of really large buying groups, with central procurement teams. Privately owned or small groups have the flexibility and ambition to create better spaces but it’s sometimes harder to find them – anyone know of a website directory that focus’ on boutique hotels around the world?

I love the new Giulia Hotel, design by Patricia Urquiola: https://room-matehotels.com/en/giulia/rooms/

Yes the Giulia is incredible. designhotels.com feature some great hotels but again not all design hotels. I do hope to visit many more and cover them here on the blog. Sp34 is a great example of how simple yet well considered hotel design needs to be. I’m revisiting a “designer budget’ hotel in Sweden next year and will feature that too.
