Gubi Beetle Chair, the choice is yours……

The Gubi Beetle chair collection

The Beetle Chair, designed by GamFratesi for Gubi has been in production since 2013.  It swiftly became a design favourite for interior architects and design lovers alike. Notably this chair has been used in many sought after restaurants such as Copenhagen, Paris and Singapore, famously the Almanac restaurant in the Standard Copenhagen and Maison du Danmark in Paris. With its vast customisable possibilities, the Gubi Beetle Chair is a perfect when creating coherent interior design schemes.

I’ve often thought that this chair was out of reach, fancy and expensive. Retailing in the UK for around £600 – £1000 each depending on the upholstery and leg options. Maybe a chair that you buy when you’re feeling flush and really grown up. After seeing it at the the Stockholm furniture fair this year, it’s been on my mind a lot.

Now excitingly there’s another finish to choose from. Made from polypropylene plastic shell rather than the usual un-upholstered moulded wood option, the price point becomes much more affordable, from £259.

” This new chair is targeting a younger audience with less buying power as well as families with children where functionality is to prioritize – however, not willing to compromise on design aesthetics, comfort and a personalized chair. Endless of combinations in terms of seating shells, bases, colours and fabrics are possible to create a bespoke Beetle Chair for all stages in life.”

With the Gubi Beetle chair originally aimed for the high end market, it is exciting to see available options for a more modest, but still mid range, end of the market. Customisable options are still available AND over time you can upgrade your Beetle chair with partial or full upholstery and even changing the legs.

That’s really clever to create chairs that are accessible to a lower and higher end of the market! Lovely! xx
