A healthier home office with an air purifying plant

Chinese evergreen - air purifying plant

I’ve been a very bad Urban Jungle Blogger and have quite a few empty plant pots laying around the house. This week I wanted to introduce a new plant to my office and spruce up the desk. Sitting down at the desk all day isn’t the best thing for your health so I wanted to find a plant that would help a little. As I’m friends with thejoyofplants.co.uk I found out that October’s plant of the month is a Chinese Evergreen, also known as Aglaonema. The great thing about the Chinese Evergreen is that it’s an air purifying plant, how cool!

Having a plant that gently purifies the air is perfect for city living. I can’t really say how effective it does that job but every little helps right? As these plants prefer partial or full shade, they’re perfect for inside the home. I’m thinking about buying a few more for my basement kitchen to liven the place up a bit.

While I strip back each room and minimise my possessions on display, the next step is to build layers of texture and tone. Plants are a perfect start, my little Chinese Evergreen will be one of many new plants for the office. Chinese evergreen - air purifying plant

These plants are super easy to look after, just don’t let the plant stand in water. Wiping dust off both sides of the leaves will help them breathe. Misting them twice a week will help keep away any pesky mites.

What plant have you bought this month?

    Beautiful pics!
I’m always on the lookout for plants I can’t kill, and I’ve used joy of plants before who have been fab. Must get ordering again 🙂

I’m trying to buy a plant a month at the moment. I’ll add one of these to my list and try my best not to kill it.

Great post – it’s amazing the difference one little plant can make!

I have a small Majesty Palm in the office that’s perfect for those of us lacking green fingers (even those of us seemingly cursed with a withering touch of death!). Most of all I love the rustling sound it makes when there’s a breeze coming through the window.

I’m am all over plants at the moment but I can’t cope with ones that need maintenance. I need hardy plants that thrive on neglect. I might try this one though as it looks lovely and I like the idea if it purifying the air. I must check out Joy of Plants.

oh! Love the idea of an air purifying plant. I bought a lovely rose plant for my desk and i managed to kill it within two days! Might check this one out. I love a bit of greenery in the house, especially on my desk, where I spend most of my time!
