New York – Tin Ceiling Tiles

New York neck ache. My recent trip to the Big Apple nearly caused my to wear a neck brace! Not only it the Architecture impressively domineering but ceilings were quite something.

Historically these decorative, lightweight, fireproof sheets of thinly rolled tin were used as an affordable alternative to plastering (gaining popularity in the mid 1800’s). I’ve been a huge fan of the replica Brooklyn Tin Tile wallpaper designed by Merci-merci for some time now but seeing actual tin tiles in situe makes me appreciatie the design much more.

I took a few snaps of the ceilings during my visit, enjoy.

On my day out to Brooklyn I went to a flea market and about a section of vintage tin ceiling tiles that had attached to a small wooden frame. I was the perfect holiday momento.

Small section of tin ceiling tile bought at a Brooklyn flea market. Yet to find the perfect space to display it yet but this will do for now.

To get the look why not but the Brooklyn tile wallpaper? It’s so nice and realisitic! I might even get a few rolls for myself!
