Sir Albert Boutique Design Hotel, Amsterdam

Sir Albert hotel building - Hannah in the houseLast year visiting Amsterdam I discovered and stayed in this brilliant boutique design hotel, Sir Albert. Located in De Pijp (moments away from the Rijksmuseum) this former 19th century diamond factory now boasts as a 90 room luxury hotel, aimed for the modern aristocrat.

The concept for this Hotel is thought up by Directors Liran Wizman And Bram Van Der Hoek who wanted this hotel to have it’s own identity giving it the name Sir Albert along with a certain personality. Treated like  a guest in his ‘mansion’ you are made to feel pampered and welcomed. Along this concept the hotel style combines luxury, clean design and a distinct neighbourhood feel that reflects the unpretentious nature of the city.

Designed by Alon Baranowitz and Irene Kronenberg from BK Architecture , there is thought and style from the moment you walk into the building leading throughout. The lobby and check in desk area is very relaxed and set off to the side of the entrance. With an unimposing oval desk the staff kindly check you in and offered me a glass of bubbly to unwind (my kinda place already!). It’s presented with well designed furniture and eye catching accessories, just like their concept it does feel relaxed and luxurious.

I’m not one to spend huge amounts of money on hotels and I was lucky to bag a bargain stay on Lastminute.com. However I’ve seen it advertised for cheaper on Designhotels.com rooms from £75 per night! All depends on the date you book.

Room service is obviously available, with connections to The Butcher Burger bar (designed by the same BK Architects ) you can get these burgers sent straight to your room! Trust me they are amazing. Drinks from downstairs can be ordered too, I had to order a glass of wine for the fun of it, it felt like such a treat, however drinking wine in bed might not be a healthy hobby to start, maybe just a holiday thing? haha

If you fancy going to the Butcher burger bar yourself and want a cocktail after, there is a secret speak easy behind the freezer door. Access only with a password, that the Sir Albert staff can give you if you ask nicely. It’s a really cool place and I can’t wait to go again.

Back in the hotel to the right of the entrance is an Asian restaurant and bar available for guests and public, named IZAKAYA. It is beautifully designed and gets very busy, I haven’t eaten there yet but it’s on my list for the next time I stay. Sir Albert IzakayaSirAlbert Eesaurant Patio

It seems like the creativity of this brand and collaborations with designers continues to grow with  a Sir Albert Creative Space a few doors down the street. Offering a hipster style creative boardroom space including a ping pong set to release some creative energy! I love the support for local businesses and creativity, it shows that Sir Albert is a company that fully embraces and supports others. Maybe one day I’ll get enough people together to hire out the space for a fun packed brainstorming session.

I’ve stayed in this hotel twice now and as you can probably tell, I love it. The beds are SUPER comfy, I really need to buy whatever mattress they have. With me being not so well last year, comfort was my main priority and this really did impress me. It wasn’t expensive as I found a good deal online and even though it is a 4 star hotel, it didn’t feel pretentious in the slightest. I’ll be planning another escape to Amsterdam this year I can imagine, so expect to hear from me Sir Albert!
