Springtime hygge with Morsø

Springtime hygge with Morsø

The Danish concept ‘hygge’ (pronounced like hoo-ga) may be referred to as a thing to achieve during cosy winter nights at home, cuddling under a blanket and lighting candles. Which of course is part of this concept. However creating hygge and generally feeling hyggelig is not only for winter and bad weather, you can feel hyggelig all year round. Yep, it’s a feeling, a concept, an approach to life and a term that expands beyond it’s wintry candle lit stereotype. I wanted to share another aspect to hygge with my love for the changing seasons and a springtime hygge in particular.

In the springtime I love to do the typical spring clean and get cooking in the kitchen with fresh seasonal veg. My kitchen is in the basement with very little light and can become quite moody and dark. When spring finally arrives, I have a bit more light and it makes SO much difference! I fling the doors wide open, bring in some magnolia from the garden and cook cosy food, both healthy and some comforting naughtiness too. This to me is hyggelig. Of course there are candles, when aren’t there, and blankets and cocktails, cats and cushions. Sounds good right?!

What I am really excited about is experimenting with my new Danish Morsø pans. I’ve been quite picky, yes me, with choosing the right cookware as I’m massively apposed to synthetic coatings even when they claim to be safe. I like honest materials and have been looking at both stainless steel and cast iron options. Starting my pan collection with these twice enamelled Morsø cast iron pans with oak handles. It makes me so happy that there are no hidden plastics or strange chemical coatings. Their simple forms and silhouettes please me too, they will look great hanging out in my kitchen. I have a little gift for my readers at the bottom, keep reading…

As you know I am very keen on products and materials that stand the test of time, which is why Morsø pans have appealed to me.

“Morsø Cookware is made of solid double enamelled cast iron. Cast iron cookware has for many decades proved its excellence as a suitable material for the noble art of cooking. Morsø has produced exclusive and functional cast iron pots and pans for several generations. The unique cast iron guarantees good quality and cannot be worn out. Therefore, each and every pan, pot and saucepan is a small piece of food history and will survive many food fads – an amusing thought.”

Feeling confident that my pans not only look great but will last for many years to come gives me a sense of hygge each time I use them.

Creating a little springtime hygge
  • Clean the windows. It lets in so much more light and open them for some lovely spring air.
  • Tackle the dreaded spring clean, your home with feel so much fresher and instantly calmer.
  • Organise the kitchen with the aim for a fresh new start.
  • Choose to use products in your kitchen that you love in both the design, style and integrity.
  • Find recipes with a healthy balance or naughty and nice. A lagom approach.
  • Bring the outdoors in. Take a look at what natural beauty is growing around your home or nearby. Get some clippings and put them in a lovely vase or hang them from the ceiling like I did.
  • Spending time with friends and loved ones is wonderfully hyggelig. Why not host a dinner party? or just have people round for drinks and nibbles.
  • Cosy up with candles and blankets, this may be a cliché hygge thing to do but it’s nice all year round.
  • Take a walk outside and enjoy the season, even if it’s raining!

Let’s face it, spring is both warm and cold so a comforting mushroom and spring vegetable soup is a perfect cosy meal.

Confession, I’m no domestic goddess, I’ve hit a bland lull by making practically the same dishes each night. To help me out of my repetitive home cuisine nightmare, I’ve found some new recipes on Morsø ‘s site. I can’t wait to try these out!

Wow. These are gorgeous. Anything monochrome with timber just makes my heart sing. Great ideas for making that transition into spring. I do love my annual spring clean. Although I still need to clean my windows….
