The Krane – Copenhagen’s luxurious and unique industrial retreat

The Krane a unique industrial luxury design hotel

On the edge of Copenhagen’s industrial harbour of Nordhavn, stands a historic coal crane transformed into an ultimate retreat. The Krane, designed by Arcgency is a unique design hotel and a concept that I’ve not seen before. This 3 floored structure contains a spa, meeting room, terrace and a private suite. It’s so special that I had to see it for myself!

This lounge is detatched from the main Krane room, secluded with an incredible view of the harbour and open water. A modernist cabin-like space with a cosy feel. Equiped with a Bang & Olufsen speaker, MENU lamps and cushions etc.

An open air walk way divides the lounge and main Krane room. It’s quite a wide walk way with additional outdoor seating and feels very safe. Step out for some fresh air and enjoy the view!  The private suite consists of a large bed, dining area, kitchen, shower room and interior accessories to make you feel at home. Owner and visionary Klaus Kastbjerg created the concept keeping the interiors black throughout, paying homage to the crane’s previous life of loading coal. The aim was also to minimise and visual distraction and appreciate the surrounding views, all while feeling enveloped by the cosy black interior. It’s hard to make a crane feel cosy but Arcgency have done it! I’d quite happily move in.

As part of the package when booking the hotel a driver will meet you at the airport or station in this Electric BMW car. Then you will be driven to the Krane and be given the keys to the car for the during of your stay.

One room I didn’t get chance to visit was the spa as it was in use. I’ll be saving that for another time. You can book treatments with Amazing Space independently to the Krane room, I’m thinking of booking a treatment, there are so many to choose from!

The GLASSBOX Meeting room. An inpressive space with panoramic views of the harbour and the waters edge. The long conference table (made up of 3 individual tables by Menu) sits 18 comfortably. The space also includes a Bang and Olufsen tv and coffee machine. There’s very little distraction in this room, other than the view, a great place to clear the mind and get work done.

An incredible redesign for a structure that otherwise would be torn down.

What a fantastic idea. And stunning views. There is something similar in Bristol actually, but not as beautifully minimal of course. You should definitely book yourself a spa treatment.

What a fantastic idea for a place to stay, I love that you can use the little electric car too. Everything has been thought about and it looks so calming too.
