Design hotel dining – Remise 47 Amsterdam

Remise 47 Amsterdam

During my latest trip to Amsterdam I stayed a few nights in Hotel De Hallen, a hotel set in a converted tram depot. This incredible space also houses a cinema, food hall, boutique shops and the restaurant Remise 47. I was invited to the restaurant to have a taster menu, experiencing the variety of dishes on offer. I’m no food writer but I love to eat and if the food’s good and is in a well designed place then I’m very happy.

As mentioned, Remise 47 is located in the same vicinity as the hotel but it’s not only for the hotel guests, it’s open to all, so it’s a great excuse to come to the hotel and enjoy the sites of this great space.

The ceilings are so high, it gives quite a dramatic feel. I fell in love with these huge doors too, just look how cool they are?! They’re the original doors in this converted tram depot, dating back to 1902.

The cuisine is a mix of styles from Eastern inspired dishes to the local Dutch dishes, for e.g coconut lemongrass soup, pork belly and Caesar salad. I was so impressed with the Caesar salad, I wasn’t really expecting anything different but the flavours were incredible.

To finish I had an incredible dessert of Dutch strawberries, white chocolate bark, ice cream and would you believe it….. absinth jelly (so strange, and strong in flavour I could only eat a few).

Definitely a restaurant to try if you’re in Amsterdam. Also check out my post on Hotel De Hallen.
