The dressing room update and plans

dressing room update | Hannah in the house, a minimalist wardrobe

Having the space for a dressing room/walk-in wardrobe is a treat. However my challenge is to limit the number of holes in the wall, so no hanging storage or built-in solutions. This is a dilemma for many renters, we live in temporary spaces that need to left in the same state as it was when we arrived. I’m also conscious of having furniture that I can bring with me to the next place. The plan for my dressing room is simple. Minimal in design, organised, long lasting design and with a calm and cosy feel. I’ve brought my Skagerak items from my previous London home, the Georg console is the only thing that need fixing to the wall. Everything else will be freestanding.

In order to plan the room I’ve created a little mood board with items that I own together with furniture and accessories that are on my wish list.

The wardrobe area. There were so many clothing rails that I fell in love with and I chose to go with the cheapest and simplest one from my list. Cutting costs on such a large scale project is important but not the reason why I chose the cheapest. The truth is that I needed two rails. One each so that Stephen and I don’t fight over hanging space, the two ikea rails fit perfectly along the wall. Made from steel with a simple and sturdy construction, they seem pretty good for such a low cost! a minimalist wardrobe

Finding drawers was an interesting. I wanted to focus on furniture that can be moved from property to property, of good quality and simplistic. I’ve gone for the Kabino 6 drawer unit designed by Simon Legald for Normann Copenhagen as it’s minimal in design and something a little different. Made from MDF, Aluminium, Ash wood and Steel it’s quite a solid piece. It comes flat pack, which is easy enough but there are lots of components so it’s important to be methodical when making it. I actually did it myself, it’s a habit of mine. I wear the tool belt in this relationship. Though I may need a little help adjusting the drawers so they line up perfectly (which you can do), but hey I did a good job, girl power and all that! More pictures of the Kabino to come once the drawers are all perfectly in line…… Kabino drawers, Normann Copenhagen

To add to my furniture collection I’ve got the full length mirror from Skagerak’s Georg range. A must for any dressing room or even just next to your wardrobe. It’s a simple piece and will add to the balance of the room. Dressing room update | Hannah in the house

I have so much to do, there’s lighting, accessories, art, textiles and additional storage. I’m so excited about this room, maybe I’ll have to up my clothing game next….

More progress on the dressing room to come!
