Typographic design company Playtype are best known for their concept store in Copenhagen selling posters, stationary, mugs and other various accessories. But there’s more to the company than just a shop selling things with trendy lettering.
In 2010 design brand and agency e-Types created the Playtype foundry and concept store, a showcase of over 20 years of type in the centre of Copenhagen. The expert type designers behind the brand create custom made type faces and typographics for companies, corporations, including a library of fonts which are available for individual projects. Clearly Scandinavian in style both clean cut and bold, this company excels at showing us that there’s so much beauty in type.

The flagship store in Copenhagen is a MUST to visit when in the city, they also sell online and various products in 150 stores world wide. A really exciting announcement is that the Aram store in Covent Garden, London are hosting a PLAYTYPE pop up shop! From 18th April to 6th May 2016. I’m so so happy about this(!) and will be adding more Playtype products to my collection, whoop!
I’m quite obsessed with their Macrography collection, the graphic shapes of the fonts look like artwork.
New to Playtype’s collection AND available at the pop-up shop are the Voo doo, Out law and Way out posters, I’m looking forward to seeing these up close. Here’s a small selection of products that have caught my eye, one or two pieces may have to find a new home with me!

It’s funny, I’ve never really been “into” typography as such, I like “the printed word” (books, newspapers, magazines etc.) for their own beauty and as backdrops etc, but never really got to grips with typography in the “single letter on an object” sense. Does that make any sense??? This looks interesting though and I really like the posters – maybe because they’re close to what I’m comfortable with: on paper? Have a lovely start to the week xo
ha, I totally know what you mean! I’m not a fan of the interior decor ‘words’ like home, love and that rubbish. But really fascinated with the art of type, for graphic design, the history of type and seeing beautiful shapes in a single letter, there’s something quite beautiful within that.
